Rockville General Hospital Celebrates 100 Years of Caring!

VERNON, CT – On Monday, November 1, 2021, at 10 am, community leaders, state representatives, physicians, and hospital staff will gather to commemorate the centennial anniversary of ECHN’s Rockville General Hospital.

Vernon Mayor Daniel A. Champagne will present a proclamation and citation, and Congressman Joseph Courtney and Senator/Dr. Saud Anwar will speak in the celebratory program, joining others in recognition of this tremendous milestone.

“Since 1921 – for one hundred years – Rockville General Hospital has been part of the fabric of the village of Rockville, and vital to the health and well-being of this wonderful community.” said Deborah Weymouth, ECHN’s Chief Executive Officer. “To this vibrant community: our patients, our medical staff, nurses, and all our caregivers, our donors, our Auxiliary and volunteers, and to everyone who has been part of these past 100 years. You have always been the heart and soul of this hospital, and we look forward to the next century of serving this wonderful community.”

First opened to an eager and enthusiastic public on November 1, 1921, a local journalist lauded it as, “a cottage hospital splendidly adapted to the needs of our community.” The hospital has indeed adapted to serve and embrace the Rockville community over the last 100 years, while still maintaining its intimate setting.

The national Anthem will be performed by Rockville High School 9th grader, Elyjah Abernathy.

A pop-up museum will be displayed in the mansion’s library with pieces from the Maxwell family. Light refreshments will be served. The public is invited and encouraged to attend this ceremony celebrating their community hospital.
