The Family Birthing Center

ECHN’s Family Birthing Center located at Manchester Memorial Hospital offers new parents personal, family-centered care in a welcoming, safe and home-like environment. Every child birth is a special event and a joyous occasion. With labor and recovery rooms, a bassinet nursery, a neonatal intensive care unit in partnership with Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Neonatologists, cesarean section delivery rooms and family gathering areas, we understand you want to deliver your baby on your terms. We strive to be flexible and offer a range of services to make your experience safe, comfortable and uniquely your own. These services include:

  • Daily lactation consults and services
  • Midwives and doulas
  • Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome: You and your baby
  • Nitrous Oxide Therapy
  • Vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC)
  • Hydro-Therapy as well as water births
  • Additional variety of education classes

Tour the Family Birthing Center

The best way to determine if ECHN’s Family Birthing Center is right for you and your family is to come visit us during one of our scheduled tours. Expectant parents, family members and friends wanting more information about our maternity services are welcome to join us for a tour. We also offer special tours designed for younger siblings to help prepare them for the birth of their newest family member. The one-hour tour lets you see most areas of the Birthing Center first-hand. Any questions you have will be answered by an expert in maternity care. If you are planning a visit to the Family Birthing Center, enter Manchester Memorial Hospital by way of the Ambulatory Services Entrance located on Guard Street and take the elevator to the first floor.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Through a close partnership with the Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, the NICU at the Family Birthing Center provides high-quality neonatal care for newborns requiring intensive and immediate medical attention. The goal of our NICU is to address every medical need your child encounters without having to uproot your family and transfer to a different facility. Comprehensive and experienced, the neonatal care team consists of:

  • Connecticut Children’s Medical Center Neonatologists
  • Lactation Consultants
  • Neonatal Nurses
  • Neonatal Nurse Practitioners
  • Pediatricians
  • Physical Therapists
  • Physician’s Assistants
  • Respiratory Therapists
  • Social Workers

Support and Educational Resources

With great joy comes great responsibility. To promote healthier neonatal and postnatal care, we provide a wide range of support services for parents including resources to help you with delivery, breastfeeding, fitness programs and much more.

The Maternity Care and Family Planning Center

For more than 30 years, The Maternity Care and Family Planning Center (MCFPC) has been a mainstay at Rockville General Hospital, and provides prenatal and postpartum care for women who are uninsured and under-insured. Women who receive prenatal care through the Center have access to ultrasounds and laboratory services, as well as gynecological services including: physical examinations, sexually transmitted infection testing, pregnancy testing, disease prevention, health promotion and maintenance and family planning services.
