Parenting Support

Did you know that there are two billion mothers in the world, and 85.4 million live in the United States? That means that 4.3 babies are born every second.

Parenting may be the most rewarding experience in the world it can also be challenging. There are characteristics of a parent’s upbringing style that may be prevalent in the child’s behaviors and actions as they age. ECHN’s Family Development Center helps give you the support and tools you need to overcome the child-rearing challenges you may face.

The Family Development Center (FDC) provides free evidence-based support and education for pregnant and parenting women in the community. At least 60 % of the women served by FDC programming are qualified as at-risk with poverty, mental health and substance abuse, and limited access to quality health care identified as primary needs.

These Women are supported with mental health and family stress screenings on an annual basis and have access to adequate prenatal and postpartum care, supported through community partnerships.

The FDC collaborates with pregnant and parenting women to identify strengths and areas of need and supports them in developing action plans to address risk factors.

Women are invited to participate in weekly home visits with their children that address family and individual well-being, parent-child interaction, and development centered parenting tools. Home visits are also a time to support women in identifying goals to prioritize their well-being.

In addition, the FDC provides women and their families with opportunities to participate in playgroups, parenting workshops, nutrition workshops and socialization activities which supports different areas of need.  FDC staff empower pregnant and parenting women to make changes within themselves utilizing evidence-based tools with the goal of developing each family to the fullest potential.

Women have access to many support systems to help them parent their children. Children live, grow and thrive with the love and support of family, caregivers and friends.
