Eastern Connecticut Health Network (ECHN) is implementing visitor restrictions at its two hospitals, Manchester Memorial (MMH) and Rockville General (RGH), and at Woodlake at Tolland Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in an effort to protect patients/residents, visitors and employees seasonal flu immediately. Anyone 18 and younger, including siblings and family members, will be restricted from certain areas of the hospital/facility unless being treated as a patient. The Family Birthing Center at MMH will have special restriction for siblings of the newborn. The Mothers’ Group and sibling classes will be suspended for the remainder of the flu season. As always, anyone who has any flu-like symptoms – even sniffles believed to be allergy-related – or who is recovering from an illness should not visit.
“ECHN is committed to ensuring the safety of our patients, visitors and staff during flu season and especially during this unusual flu season,” says Deborah Parker, Senior Vice President for Patient Care Services & Chief Clinical Officer. “We recognize that these temporary changes to our visitor policies may be inconvenient and disappointing to some, but they are in the best interest of everyone.”
These restrictions may change as the spread of seasonal flu increases. Therefore, anyone planning to visit either hospital or Woodlake at Tolland should check ECHN’s website at www.echn.org for further advisories.
