Many physicians on the ECHN medical staff participate in research studies, also called clinical trials, which test new medications or procedures. Patients may choose to participate in such trials as a way to have access to some newer treatments and as a way to contribute to medical science.

A research study involving human subjects is not conducted unless a medication or procedure is deemed safe enough to use for humans. All studies at ECHN must be approved by the ECHN Institutional Review Committee.
