The MRI Department at Manchester Memorial Hospital, an affiliate of Eastern Connecticut Health Network (ECHN), has been awarded a three-year reaccreditation in whole body imaging as a result of a recent voluntary survey by the American College of Radiology (ACR).
The ACR, headquartered in Reston, Va., awards accreditation to facilities for achieving high practice standards after a voluntary evaluation of facilities' practices. Evaluations are conducted by board-certified radiologists, who are members of the ACR with special expertise in whole body imaging. They assess the quality of the work being performed and the qualifications of the personnel involved. The surveyors report their findings to the ACR's Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the facility with a comprehensive report.
The ACR is a national organization serving more than 32,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, and medical physicists with programs that focus on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.
Accreditation by the ACR provides the public, referring physicians, other healthcare providers, and insurance companies with evidence that the accredited facility offers comprehensive healthcare services.
