The 2012 Healium Ball, held on Saturday, June 9, 2012, at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford, raised more than $300,000 to benefit the DeQuattro Cancer Center Fund and the Meg Berté Owen Survivorship Fund.
The Healium Ball is a celebration by the community of the advanced services offered at the Eastern Connecticut Cancer Institute, housed at the John A. DeQuattro Cancer Center. The black-tie event started with an elegant cocktail reception with music by the Bob DePalma Quintet. As the 450 guests entered the ballroom exquisitely decorated with elegant flowers, a New York sky line and a red-draped stage with marquee, the waves of a wowed crowd could be heard. Among the guests in attendance were Governor Dannel P. Malloy and Geno Auriemma, head coach of the UConn women’s basketball team. Alison Morris of FoxCT News was the evening’s emcee. A grateful patient of the DeQuattro Cancer Center, Karen Scott, shared her powerful experience and celebrated the care she received at ECHN. The electrifying performances by “Hot on Broadway” dazzled the guests with songs from such shows as Cabaret and All That Jazz, and were followed by a gourmet dinner and dancing to the music provided by the top-notch professional musicians, Bock & Blu!
This year, the proceeds from the Ball will be used to support two critical navigation programs associated with the Eastern Connecticut Cancer Institute: Nurse Navigation and Survivorship Navigation. These two services provide non-reimbursable care that support patients and families before, during and after medical treatments. Both programs are vital to the overall healing of cancer patients and help guide them through their journey.
The Presenting Sponsor of this year’s Healium Ball, Community CancerCare, contributed $50,000, and we are extremely grateful for their support. We would also like to recognize the following corporate sponsors who made contributions of $10,000 to this event: Medical Oncology and Blood Disorders, LLP, International Aero Engines, Eastern Connecticut Pathology Consultants, PC and Ambulance Service of Manchester. Flower arrangements were generously donated by ShopRite of Manchester and dinner wines were donated Chris and Carolyn Didden of 2Fly Wines.
The support of all of the contributors to this event - individuals, families and organizations - is valued and critical to keeping our navigation programs flourishing at the Eastern Connecticut Cancer Institute. Once again, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to each and every one for their kind support of this event this year!
