Enrichment Round Descriptions

Anesthesiology


    Faculty Supervisor: Derek Rosner, DO
    Learn basic principles of anesthesiology, including experience in intubation, central line placement, hemodynamic monitoring and pharmacokinetics of commonly used intraoperative anesthetics, as well as principles of epidural line placement. 

Breast Surgery


    Faculty Supervisor: Elizabeth Brady, MD
    Learn basic principles of treating malignancies and pathology of the breast. Practice with breast examinations and breast surgery, including biopsy, mastectomy and reconstruction. 

Complementary Medicine


    Faculty Supervisor: Nicholas Palermo, DO
    Learn basic principles of complementary and alternative medicine, including acupuncture, energy medicine, natural and herbal medicine. 

Dermatology


    Faculty Supervisor: Laura Benedetto, DO
    Learn basic principles of treatment of dermatologic diseases and dermatologic surgery in a busy dermatologist’s office. 

Diagnostic Radiology


    Faculty Supervisor: Vinay Madan, MD
    Learn basic principles of multiple imaging modalities, including radiography, computer tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and ultrasound. 

Emergency Medicine


    Faculty Supervisor: Jonathan Redenbaugh, DO
    Learn basic principles of emergency medicine with clinical exposure to the ER. 

Hematology & Oncology


    Lean basic principles of the diagnosis and management of cancer and hematologic diseases. Management exposure to chemotherapeutics and radiation oncology at a busy cancer center in the ambulatory and inpatient settings. 

Interventional Radiology


    Faculty Supervisor: Vinay Madan, MD
    Learn basic principles of the various modalities and procedures interventional radiologists practice, such as percutaneous line insertions, paracentesis, thoracentesis, CT and ultrasound-guided biopsies, etc. 

OMM and Sports Medicine


    Faculty Supervisor: Nicholas Palermo, DO
    Residents receive further clinical exposure to osteopathic principles and practice from a sports medicine perspective. In addition to OMM, there is clinical training in joint ultrasound, injections and sports physicals. 

Pathology


    Faculty Supervisor: Dennis O’Neill, MD
    Residents receive further exposure to clinical pathology to build on the foundation learned in the first two years of medical school. There is dedicated exposure to anatomic and laboratory pathology, blood bank and surgical pathology. 

Robotic Surgery


    Faculty Supervisor: David Walters, MD
    Learn basic principles and theory of robotic surgery - the use of a robot to perform various surgical procedures. There is exposure to colon and rectal, urologic and gynecologic surgery using this state-of-the-art modality. 

Sleep Medicine


    Faculty Supervisor: Richard Shoup, MD
    Learn basic principles of sleep medicine including polysomnography, and treatment of sleep apnea, narcolepsy and other disorders of sleep.



OB/GYN Enrichment Round Descriptions

The Obstetrics and Gynecology rotation will offer enrichment rounds during the rotation.
 
Faculty Supervisor: Pamela Lewis, MD

Breast Pathology


    Learn breast abnormalities and obtain experience in the most recent management techniques for breast cancer.

GYN Pathology


    Review interesting GYN pathology cases with Dr. Schroden.

Obstetrical Anesthesia


    Learn and review obstetrical anesthesia with Dr. Rosen, including epidurals and c-section anesthesia.

Urogynecology


    Learn pelvic incontinence floor defects and pelvic anatomy with Dr. Mendelovici, a urogynecologist. In-office urodynamics, cystocscopy and post- and pre-op patients are evaluated.

Ultrasound


    Learn obstetrical and gynecological ultrasound in a private office setting (Dr. Lewis’ office). Also, specialized GYN ultrasounds (sonohystograms) will be performed.
