Capital Renovations
In an effort to create a more healing and pleasant environment for our patients and their families, ECHN has undertaken capital renovations at both Manchester Memorial Hospital (MMH) and Rockville General Hospital (RGH). These renovations will not only upgrade the appearance of these areas, but also increase efficiency for the staff.
The design objective is to refresh the aesthetics of the areas with new flooring, paint, window treatments, lighting, art, furniture and signage. The overall concept will evoke a nature-inspired atmosphere with warm woods and natural materials.

Rockville Bank Foundation Supports Rockville Hospital Cafeteria Upgrades
The Rockville Bank Foundation awarded ECHN $157,500 in December 2011. A portion of this grant was used to renovate the Rockville General Hospital cafeteria. It had been over 20 years since the last renovation. The project was completed in time for the holiday dinner in mid-December enjoyed by employees, volunteers and physicians.
The official ribbon-cutting took place on February 7, 2012, complete with hospital gauze “ribbon” and surgical scissors. In attendance were officials from both Rockville General Hospital and the Rockville Bank Foundation, including Peter Karl, ECHN president/CEO, and Rockville Bank/Rockville Financial, Inc. president and CEO William H.W. Crawford, IV.

Nina Kruse, VP of Development for the ECHN Community Healthcare Foundation, summed up the project and celebration, “We are so appreciative of the funding for this major project which includes new floors, lighting, chairs, tables and banquette seating, window treatments, wall coverings, paint and murals. Rockville Bank and the Rockville Bank Foundation represent two distinguished organizations whose outstanding generosity demonstrates their commitment to the Eastern Connecticut community.”
Mr. Crawford added, “Rockville Bank has enjoyed a long partnership with ECHN, and this project at Rockville General Hospital is our latest endeavor together. We are pleased to continue to join them as they provide quality care and support for the communities we serve.”
Manchester Memorial Hospital Opens Newly Renovated Lobby, Thanks to Funds from the Rockville Bank Foundation
The lobby of busy Manchester Memorial Hospital is utilized by thousands of

visitors, staff and patients every year and, after so much continual use, a major facelift was needed. Thanks to funding from the Rockville Bank Foundation, the lobby has been totally renovated and was revealed at a special opening ceremony on July 12. The event featured a ceremonial ribbon-cutting with a twist: officials of Manchester Memorial Hospital and the Rockville Bank Foundation used surgical scissors to cut a ribbon of hospital gauze.
The Manchester Memorial Hospital lobby renovation was made possible as part of a $157,500 grant from the Rockville Bank Foundation. The project included a new ceiling, lighting, hospital directory, monitors, ceramic tile flooring, drapes,

wall covering and decorative features, and new sofas, chairs and tables. Funds from this grant also were used to renovate Rockville General Hospital’s cafeteria earlier this year.
“The Rockville Bank Foundation has donated more than $500,000 to ECHN since that foundation’s establishment in 1998 and we are very appreciative,” explained Nina Kruse, VP of Development for ECHN’s Foundation. “When you visit someone’s home, the tone immediately is set as soon as you walk in the front door. With Manchester Memorial Hospital’s new comfortable lobby area, everyone who enters our building immediately enjoys a warm, welcoming experience.”
Speakers at the Manchester Memorial Hospital ceremony included: Peter J. Karl, ECHN President/Chief Executive Officer; Tom Scanlon, Chairman of the ECHN Foundation Board of Trustees; and Richard J. Trachimowicz, Rockville Bank Executive Vice President and President of the Rockville Bank Foundation. Also attending were: Marino J. Santarelli, Rockville Bank Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer; Leo V. Diana, Mayor of Manchester, Conn.; and members of the Bank’s and ECHN’s Boards and staffs.
“This is only the latest project in Rockville Bank’s long partnership with ECHN,” said William H. W. Crawford, IV, President and Chief Executive Officer of Rockville Bank/Rockville Financial, Inc. “We are pleased to be part of the progress and growth of Manchester Memorial Hospital, and look forward to continuing to work together to provide quality services and care to the communities we serve across eastern Connecticut.”
